The pronunciation of Xerial is ex-erial. The name comes after XML and serializable (it is a scientific term of the database field that denotes the safe execution of queries and updates). As the name implies, the final target of the Xerial project is to implement an XML DBMS with strong support of concurrent transaction processing.
